Our Practice is proud to be part of a Clinical Research Network, facilitating high quality research studies within general practice.

Research is fundamental to improve quality and care within the NHS for everybody. Patients often enjoy being part of these studies. Sometimes they receive tests or treatments that wouldn't have been available to them otherwise. Many people appreciate being able to give something back to the NHS in this way.

All clinical research projects are checked by external ethical committees, before being offered to Nutwood. We then select those projects that interest us or are most relevant to our practice population. Our research nurse, Liz Butterworth, identifies relevant patients for the study who meet the entry criteria. We send out detailed letters to these patients, who can then contact the team to express their interest in joining the study. Patients can leave a study at any time if they wish to. Your care will not be affected in anyway if you decide not to participate in a study.

Research studies are not funded by our own practice budget, and hence do not negatively affect our patient services.

Our GP Lead for research within the practice is Dr Gemma Helme.
